    Three Types of Employee

Employees are an organisations greatest asset and a source of its sustainable competitive advantage.

The above statements are often touted maxims in the business world.   It certainly stands to reason that a good company can fail with poor employees whereas great employees can help a poor company succeed or help a good company survive a difficult period.

In my work helping individuals and organisations achieve greater engagement at work I’ve seen three main types of employees.

    Which type are you?
What types do you see in your team or organisation?

And perhaps more importantly, what would you like to see?

The great thing is that engaged employees achieve more and actually enjoy their work.  Many of their basic human needs are being met and they are less likely to look elsewhere.  In today’s environment, it’s a crying shame that only 20 – 29% of Australians are engaged at work.  We spend so long at work it strikes me as a real failing of both our organisations and our people that engagement is not being pursued with more vigour.  Mind you, this is not the sole responsibility of our employers.  In fact quite the contrary.  You as a worker MUST take responsibility for your engagement.  If, after discussing it with your employer, they can’t provide you with what you need, leave and seek an organisation that can.  You owe it to yourself.  Your family.  Our communities and even our organisations.  After all, if you don’t ask you won’t get.

Please help me to spread the word by sharing.
