EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

  • EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

‘A Happy Worker is a Productive Worker’.

    Background

An “engaged employee” is one who is fully involved in, and enthusiastic about, his or her work, and thus will act in a way that furthers their organisation’s interests.  Are you engaged?  You can click here to find out.   According to Scarlett Surveys, “Employee Engagement is a measureable degree of an employee’s positive or negative emotional attachment to their job, colleagues and organisation which profoundly influences their willingness

to learn & perform at work”.  Thus engagement is distinctively different from satisfaction, motivation, culture, climate and opinion.  In fact it’s my belief that engagement at work is driven by our basic human needs.

Multiple studies conducted over the past 10 years have show that only 20 – 29% of Australian workers are engaged at work!   The estimates for lost productivity alone are $39 billion per annum!!

The chart to the right highlights the three categories of engagement.
It is my belief that employee engagement is not just the responsibility of the employer.  The employee MUST also take responsibility for their own engagement.  By empowering employees to accept this responsibility, organisations free themselves of the burden to create, manage and control this process and switch to the role of enabling.  Far easier and far more effective.
