How Effective are you as a Leader?

When was the last time you got some feedback about your performance?

As a Management Coach I have witnessed literally hundreds of managers bend over backwards, at great personal sacrifice to do or provide something for their teams only to see it be completely ineffective and unappreciated.  It’s perhaps one of the most frustrating and if you’re honest, upsetting things that can happen to you as a manager.  A regular question I ask Managers in reference to tasks that are taking up a lot of time and energy and apparently yield little value ask is “Why are you doing that?” .  I often hear answers that reflect the managers opinions, values, beliefs and experiences.   I remind them that their success will be measured through their teams performance and that they need to meet their teams needs and then ask “What do your people need or want from you?”  I’m often met with blank stares and a shrug of the shoulders, or some broad motherhood statements (which are true in principle but are highly subjective to the individual and therefore often difficult to deliver).  To be the most effective manager you can be, you need to do two things.

    1. Find out what your team needs and/or wants from you.    (ASK THEM)
    2. Get feedback on how you’re tracking against delivering those needs/wants.  (ASK THEM)

Getting employees to honestly provide feedback can be difficult.  You also need to consider your boss – what do they need from you and how are you tracking against those expectations and finally there are your peers and customers – are you living up to their expectations and delivering what needs to be delivered.  I have been using a 360 Degree Leadership Effectiveness Assessment for many of the development and coaching programs I’ve delivered over the years and I’ve decided to offer it to individuals as a stand alone package.

The online assessment collects and collates responses from those you nominate to provide you with feedback.  It measures a range of Leadership Characteristics across five core performance areas:

    1. Self-Management
    2. Organisational Capabilities
    3. Team Building & Teamwork
    4. Problem Solving
    5. Sustaining the Vision

There are two reports that it produces:

    • Client Feedback Report – sample available for download here.
    • Leaders Coaching Report – sample available for download here.

I am offering access to this instrument as a package that includes online test administration, a copy of both reports and a 1hr individual report debriefing session for $299 (+Gst).  This is exceptional value and far below the current market rate for these styles of instruments.  Full 360 degree assessment is often only provided to the most senior managers in an organisation because of it’s cost.  It is a detailed, comprehensive feedback mechanism that allows you to identify strengths you can rely on and areas of development that you can address.  If you are interested in arranging access to this assessment or have any questions please email me.

Please help me to spread the word by sharing.
